Executive Director Moore told the board the district is investing in teacher supports and curriculum alignment across secondary grades.
Moore described a grant-funded new-teacher program called "Best" that provides mentor teachers and professional learning for first- and second-year educators. "We are giving them space to talk about their experiences as new teachers, but also to talk about their support needs," Moore said.
Moore said the district is convening secondary content teams for grades 6–12 to align pacing and curriculum in science, social studies, English and math, and that a new ELA curriculum — the district’s first in 31 years — is moving through the adoption process with an upcoming timeline to be returned to the board.
On required reporting, Moore said the district’s reports have been accepted by OSPI and that two minor corrections remain on an OSSI funding grant for Crossroads and Open Doors; staff expect final approval soon. Moore framed the work as part of improving instructional coherence and supports for early-career teachers.
Board members expressed appreciation for teachers and for student work shared earlier in the meeting.
