Hainesville board hears well‑project update; unexpected pipe material may raise costs

Hainesville — At the Nov. 28 board meeting, staff updated trustees on progress at the new well site and on related utility work, and said contractors found unexpected pipe material that will alter the planned connection work and increase costs.
Speaker 2 relayed Jerry’s construction report: the work area was staked, new line locations marked and excavation begun. During excavation, the contractor discovered the existing water lines are high‑density PVC rather than the ductile‑iron pipe the plans assumed, which “necessitated a different type of connection device that was not part of the original plan or budget.”
Board members said additional estimates are being gathered from Linden (the general contractor) and other vendors. Speaker 2 said initial coordination with the bank had occurred but the village had not taken out a loan; the board discussed splitting project funding from reserves and borrowing to cover the remainder.
No vote on additional funding was recorded. Staff said they will provide cost estimates from contractors and update the board once pricing and sequencing are clearer.
