Adams 12 board swears in new directors and elects Lori Goldstein president, Assad Lucas vice president

The Adams 12 Five Star Schools Board administered oaths of office to newly elected directors and completed officer elections and routine appointments during its Dec. 1 meeting.

Judge Tony Wayman administered the oath to Ike Anyanwuibo (described in the packet as director, District 3) and Amerisad/Amara Assad Lucas (director, District 4). Following the oath, the board conducted nominations and a written nomination process for president and vice president. With one nominee for president, the board moved to elect Lori Goldstein by acclamation; the combined motion to elect Goldstein as president and Assad Lucas as vice president was moved and the board confirmed both positions by roll call.

The board then moved to appoint Paula Battistelli to the office of secretary and to designate the senior executive assistant to the board (Stephanie Hicks) as assistant secretary; the motion passed by roll call. The board also approved a motion to appoint Superintendent Godowsky to the office of treasurer; board members discussed that some districts appoint a board member as treasurer, but Adams 12 has historically designated the superintendent for that office because of the superintendent’s detailed knowledge of district finances and to limit potential liability for board members.

The board completed the routine roll-call votes for these appointments and congratulated the newly elected officers.

Next steps: newly elected officers will perform duties in coming meetings; staff will reflect these officer assignments in board materials and the district brochure.
