The Common Council on Dec. 16 approved Exhibit 9813, a mutual-aid services agreement with the Waukesha Fire Department.
Chief Latanya, participating by phone, said the $33,000 cost will be covered by the water department. She described operational reasons for the agreement: Watertown personnel lack confined-space certification, and local hazmat resources in Jefferson County are limited. The agreement creates a pathway to call for immediate help and provides additional training opportunities for Watertown staff.
Annette moved the resolution and it passed after council discussion about costs and benefits; staff confirmed funding availability in the water department's budget.
The agreement is intended to bolster emergency response capabilities and training rather than create a standing operational expense for the fire department.
