Redmond swears in three new councilmembers; outgoing members honored

Council President Kritzker opened the meeting and introduced a special recognition for Anderson and Fields; Anderson accepted the tribute and reflected on accomplishments including the city’s environmental sustainability action plan, the public works capital improvements program and regional partnerships. Anderson said serving as vice president and public safety committee chair was an “honor and privilege.”
Judge Michael Finkel administered the oath of office for three council seats. Melissa Stewart was sworn in to Position 4, Minka Soni (referred to in the transcript as “Minkasoni”) to Position 6, and Vivek Prakria to Position 2. Each repeated and signed the oath administered by Judge Finkel, who offered brief remarks and light-hearted commentary during the ceremony.
After the oath and ceremonial photographs, the council recessed for about 30 minutes and reconvened to continue the regular meeting.
The ceremony provided an early moment for outgoing and incoming members to note priorities they intend to pursue: Anderson highlighted sustainability and public-safety commitments, while the new members concluded the ceremony and joined the rest of the council to proceed with the evening’s business.
