During discussion Alderman Burt referenced a projected savings of roughly $71,000 compared with the current contract, and asked how the savings would be used. City staff said the savings had been built into the budget and could reduce the need to raise user rates.
The motion to approve the contract was moved and seconded and passed by roll call. Council members noted the potential fiscal relief for the sanitation budget but did not specify any new expenditure plans for the savings during the meeting.
The contract was described in the packet as a three-year authorization; bidders, contractual rates and length were discussed in committee and presented to council for approval.
