The Ashland City Council on Oct. 21 declared its intent to consider vacating a portion of alley on East Walnut Street between 123 and 125 and set a public hearing for Dec. 2 in response to a petition filed by the two adjacent property owners.
Staff described the alley as making a 90‑degree turn and serving as a cut‑through from Arthur Street that has resulted in vehicles striking a building. The petitioners asked council to eliminate the cut‑through while preserving property access from Arthur. The presenter encouraged council and the public to drive the alley to view the unique configuration and said the petition was submitted by the property owners (not the city).
Council voted to set the hearing and staff will mail notices to adjoining property owners; the hearing will collect support and opposition before any formal action to vacate is taken.
