Chatham Park project nearly closed out; Coopertown progress continues

CB Development reported to the board that Chatham Park Elementary is about 99% complete with the gym having opened Oct. 20 and only punch-list items remaining. The middle-school cafeteria addition was completed and both projects have entered warranty periods for equipment and systems. Project managers said closeout tasks and contractor paperwork are nearly finished and a final project budget will follow.
On Coopertown, steel erection is nearly finished and windows/roofing are starting; the construction schedule aims to enclose buildings over the coming month. The plan calls for some classroom rotations (opening rear additions over spring break) so interior renovation can occur during the school year with minimal disruption. Project budget updates show the Coopertown contingency (originally $900,000) is currently around $770,000; staff said much of site work is complete and the contingency level is comfortable for remaining interior work.
Facility staff also said lessons learned from Chatham Park (unanticipated issues that added change orders) informed planning for Coopertown to avoid similar hidden costs.
An open house for the Chatham Park community was announced for Dec. 11 (6:00–7:30 p.m.) to allow residents to view classrooms, the gym and new additions.
