Henry County approves parks upgrades and special-needs employment partnership

Henry County commissioners approved several Leisure and Parks items on Dec. 2, including purchases to update recreational facilities and a new partnership to expand supported employment for county residents with special needs.
Parks staff requested approval to purchase Matrix fitness equipment and ecore rubber sports flooring for JP Moseley Park (proposal via Omnia contracts, $117,697.59) and to prepay Georgia Power $250,000 for sports lighting and enter a monthly service agreement for lighting infrastructure upgrades at Richard Craig Park; the board approved both items. Staff noted that invoices for impact fees had been sent to the City of McDonough but payments had not yet been received; the county will proceed with the upgrades and monitor impact-fee receipts.
Separately, Parks and Recreation presented a memorandum of understanding with Briggs and Associates to establish a Special Needs Employment Program that uses existing county positions and state/federal supportive-employment funding. Staff said Briggs would provide recruitment, training and on-site support at no cost to the county; the board approved the MOU and praised the program s an expansion of inclusive county services.
Commissioners emphasized coordination across departments for implementation and asked staff to provide timelines for equipment installation and program rollouts.
