Henry County awards East Atlanta Road resurfacing contract; SPLOST year-in-review highlights projects

For East Atlanta Road resurfacing, staff reported Henry County was notified of $850,000 from Congressman David Scott's office and HUD and solicited 11 sealed bids; the lowest responsive bid was E.R. Snell at $1,240,097. Staff recommended awarding the contract to E.R. Snell and outlined funding as $850,000 federal HUD dollars plus a district resurfacing contribution of approximately $390,097. Commissioner Nate Robinson and others praised the work and moved to approve; the board carried the motion and asked staff to send a letter of thanks to Congressman Scott's office for the HUD allocation.
In the broader review, staff highlighted completion or progress on projects funded by SPLOST: North Mount Carmel Recreation Center opening, progress on the aquatic center in McDonough (targeted opening next summer), Locust Grove tag office foundation, McDonough Parkway extension, Rock Quarry Road widening, and multiple resurfacing contracts covering nearly 200 county roads over the coming year. Staff also previewed planned 2026 work including SR 81 widening, Jonesboro Road widening, and intersection improvements at Henry Parkway and Industrial Boulevard.
The board approved the resurfacing award and endorsed the broader SPLOST program updates and upcoming project schedule.
