Redmond auditors issue clean 2023 financial and federal‑grant opinions

Auditors presented the results of the City of Redmond’s fiscal‑year 2023 financial audit and single‑audit for federal grant compliance, telling the council they will issue unmodified (clean) opinions on both reports.

Haji Adams, audit manager, said the audit covered Jan. 1–Dec. 31, 2023, and follows government auditing standards. Audit lead Angela Funamori told the committee the financial statements are “stated fairly and materially correct,” and auditors identified no significant deficiencies or material weaknesses in internal control. The auditors also reported no instances of noncompliance material to the financial statements.

Auditors noted there were some uncorrected items, but they concluded those items were immaterial and did not affect the overall opinion. Priscilla Wong, the audit supervisor on the engagement, said the auditors evaluated whether management could circumvent controls and found no indications that controls were circumvented.

The audit team said the draft report and supporting packet were provided to council members and that the city’s final report will be published on the auditor’s office website within one to two weeks; the audit office will also distribute a customer‑service survey to city staff involved in the audit. Council members thanked city accounting staff and the audit team for their work and asked staff how to access the packet online.

Next steps: auditors will publish the final report online and the city will receive the exit packet that lists the immaterial uncorrected items shared with management.
