Dr. Smith, the district superintendent, used her Oct. 27 report to outline several districtwide initiatives focused on student wellness, safety and curriculum planning.

"We have been promoting Safe to Say, which is the anonymous tip line," Dr. Smith said, noting the tool alerts staff when community members raise concerns about a student. She told the board the district has completed required emergency drills for the school year and is implementing Raptor software to improve visitor management and attendance tracking.

Dr. Smith introduced Dr. Jessica Nyer as the district's supervisor of student services and said Nyer "has hit the ground running" overseeing nursing and counseling programs. The superintendent also announced a community series called 'Cardinal Conversations' focused on mental health, and described work on a "portrait of a graduate" initiative linked to the district's comprehensive plan.

On academics and operations, Dr. Smith said the district is piloting curricular work and preparing an equity action plan. She also said the administration is beginning work on "artificial intelligence" policies and practices and exploring strategic partnerships for classroom innovation.

Board members were told that, upon board approval that evening, the superintendent's and assistant superintendent's performance measures — tied to implementation of the comprehensive plan, an equity action plan and a three‑year professional development rollout — will be posted publicly on the district website.

The superintendent closed by highlighting recent student learning activities, exchange programs, and homecoming events before the board moved on to other business.
