Sweetwater commissioners deny Lincoln Star improvement district petition after petitioners withdraw

The Sweetwater County Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously Nov. 18 to deny a petition to form the Lincoln Star Improvement and Service District after the petitioners filed a written withdrawal.
The chair told the board the hearing had been adjourned at a prior meeting after testimony and evidence had been received and that county staff had since received a written withdrawal. County counsel said the withdrawal was received within 30 days after adjournment, which “comports to the statute,” and therefore the commission did not need to reconvene the hearing to act. The resolution presented is a joint order denying the petition.
Commissioner Richards moved to approve Resolution No. 25‑11‑CC‑01, a joint order denying the petition, and Commissioner Jones seconded. The motion carried unanimously.
County staff said the withdrawal appeared to result from discussions with Lincoln County and petitioner interest in pursuing enhancements through county coordination in the future. The chair thanked staff and commissioners who prepared for the hearing and noted the conversation would move the county’s work forward.
The board recorded no additional conditions or follow‑up directives in open session; the resolution and the withdrawal notice are part of the public packet and the county said those documents are available to the public.
