Board approves downtown street closure for Dec. 6 Christmas parade

The Lebanon Board of Works on Nov. 24 approved a street-closure request to accommodate the city’s evening Christmas parade on Dec. 6.
John Messager, parks director, told the board the closure would begin at 5:00 p.m. — an hour before the parade start — and run from Meridian Street at Memorial Park down to Main Street, across Main and up Northeast Street back into Memorial Park. "We just, got with, Richie Mount, Scott Hood from the police department, Chuck Batts, fire department, Joe LePage, communication..." Messager said, describing coordination among public safety and operations staff.
Messager said DPW will set up barricades "just like the fourth of July," signage and no-parking notices will be posted, and EMS will be on site. He said the parade drew 45 units last year and the city expects more entries this year. The board moved, seconded and approved the closure by voice vote.
The board did not attach additional conditions; Messager encouraged residents to attend the event. Next step: DPW and police will implement barricade and signage plans and staff will proceed with operational arrangements for the evening parade.
