Curley said Forti Street work is essentially complete with only one sidewalk panel remaining and a new three-way stop will be installed at Forti and John Bart at the school corporation nd that Witt Road remains in right-of-way acquisition with preconstruction expected to wrap by late February, though major construction is likely to be pushed to 2027. "Should be wrapping it up by late February," Curley said about the right-of-way schedule.
Curley highlighted a possible technology addition for park-trail communication: an Internet-based, AI-driven platform some regional bike organizations use to update trail conditions. "It's about $50 a month, for the service," he said, adding staff will consider whether that tool could streamline trail-status updates.
On contracts and bids, Curley reported the Old Street Garage demolition bid came in at $75,750, under the $100,000 allocation, and that bid packaging for the 312 Thompson Street storage building renovation produced a low, responsive bid from Monroe Construction at $325,976 including alternates (the board had budgeted approximately $385,000). "We were felt really good about that price," Curley said of the demolition award.
Curley also updated on park amenities: a contractor has been engaged to install a requested east-side gate at Memorial Park's pickleball courts, and contracts are issued for Admiral Longley Park perimeter path Phase 2 with minor winter work anticipated and the bulk of construction in spring.
He presented visitor demographics for the park's first year: "we've had about 51, 52,000 visitors," Curley said, and staff are breaking visitation into generational categories (Gen Alpha through baby boomers) to better align amenities with use patterns. Board members asked whether tournament numbers skewed visitation; Curley said tournaments are included in the total and offered to work with consultants to separate those days from regular visitation.
Curley closed by saying staff will return with contract notices to proceed and more detailed timing once award documentation is complete.
