Cannon Falls board approves consent agenda, certifies unchallenged special election and postpones audit to December

The Cannon Falls School Board approved a package of routine motions Monday, certifying that no one filed a contest to the Nov. 4 special election, accepting several donations to schools and approving an updated winter coaching list while the district’s fiscal-year 2025 audit was postponed until the board’s December meeting.
Board members voted by voice to approve the consent agenda, which included gifts read aloud by Jeff. "This month we've got a 40 foot aluminum bench for facilities ... $300 from anonymous for the kindergarten team, and $5,000 from Limestone Fire and Security for a scholarship," Jeff said while listing donors and in-kind contributions.
The consent vote followed a presentation of the monthly finance report by Josh, who said the district’s budget was "pretty positive" overall but the full FY25 audit presentation could not be completed tonight. "We originally had planned on hopefully having the audit for fiscal 25 to present tonight ... it will be at the December meeting," Josh said. He also noted the district expects a Dec. 1 cleanup of Dakota County tax postings and described debt-service timing across the fiscal year.
On facilities, Josh and facilities staff reported the roof section replacement is essentially finished and awaiting final walkthrough. "We've completed about 95% of it," one staff member said, noting only retainage remains until the contractor and district sign off.
The board also approved a certificate regarding contest of the Nov. 4 special election after S3 explained that no notice of contest had been filed. The motion carried by voice vote.
An updated 2025–26 winter coaching list was approved with volunteers subject to background checks; the record shows the motion approving that list carried by voice vote. Board discussion noted one volunteer (Lanny) may assume expanded duties after background clearance.
During administrative reports, board members praised the PTO’s recent fundraiser, with one speaker estimating the total at "roughly 31,000 something." Facilities staff described recent tree plantings replacing removed ash trees with several maple varieties and said the elementary students helped with planting.
The board set its next meeting for Dec. 15 in the Board Room and confirmed the FY25 audit presentation and year-end taxation items will be scheduled for that meeting.
The meeting adjourned after the final voice vote.
