Staff outlines SEEDin2 rollout, testing and training schedule

Tessa Foggitt provided an update on SEEDin2, the Water Boards' planned replacement/customization of the current SEEDin platform using EarthSoft's EQuIS system. She said the contracted laboratory has been testing the chemistry module and staff will shortly begin API testing with regional data centers.
"We are customizing that platform to store intake seed and data, and we're calling that new system SEEDin2," Foggitt said, describing the current focus on the chemistry data module and a planned later phase for field, habitat, and taxonomy data.
Foggitt said staff hope to make the chemistry module publicly available in spring 2026 and plan to release the first chemistry data submission template and guidance in January so data providers can preview changes. She described outreach plans that include quick guides, videos, and training sessions with ELAP's technical advisory committee and regular coordination with regional data centers to work out transition plans.
On timing of the cutover, Foggitt said there is no firm date yet but she is pressing management; she estimated a likely transition window around six months after public release but said the team is receiving feedback that a longer window may be needed.
Staff stressed they will provide vocabulary crosswalks where possible and said they plan to redesign the SEEDin website and publish resources locally on launch. Foggitt said the next user group meeting will include a walk-through of the SEEDin2 form and template changes.
