Sunnyside’s City Council on Dec. 8 adopted an ordinance revising the municipal business‑license threshold to match a change in state law establishing minimum gross‑receipts exemptions.
City Manager said the amendment makes Sunnyside’s code consistent with the state requirement: businesses operating within city limits that have gross sales of $2,000 or less are exempt from needing a city business license; non‑resident businesses that do not maintain a city business address are allowed a higher threshold (discussed at $4,000) before a license is required. Staff said the change must be adopted before the start of the new year to remain in compliance.
Council voted to adopt the ordinance after members asked for confirmation that the change was a state requirement and that the ordinance had been emailed to members ahead of the meeting. The motion passed by roll call.
