Monitoring Council adds standing equity item, forms post‑fire work group and sets 2026 dates

The California Water Quality Monitoring Council used its Nov. 20 meeting to agree on procedural items and next steps for council work groups. Director Laurie Weber reported that the equity work group has updated a charter and requested council members confirm liaisons, encourage participation, and support operationalizing equity across work groups. The council agreed to add a standing equity item to quarterly agendas.
Weber also announced a new post‑fire water quality work group created after council interest in prior meetings; Alvina Maginto (SCORP) volunteered to co‑chair and the group will draft a charter and timeline for activities. Members were invited to join and to identify potential co‑chairs. The council proposed quarterly meeting dates for 2026 and asked members to flag schedule conflicts by email.
Members also used the member‑update portion of the agenda to publicize upcoming events (CSU Water webinar series, CASQA seminar) and requested that the council coordinate outreach with other agency web pages and the council’s own ‘‘Safe to Drink’’ materials to improve public messaging about tap‑water safety.
