Unidentified Speaker 2 reported on the annual inspection of the town’s closed landfill, saying engineer Mark Popham conducted the inspection and supplied a written report that "will need to be signed voted on and signed." Speaker 2 described on-the-ground work with the Department of Public Works and the water department to clean out the swale, chip and remove brush, and remediate beaver-related flooding.
She told the board the site is "well below the limits that are set" but noted two of five groundwater monitoring wells probably will need replacement; she said the town will assess whether to repair the existing wells or drill two new ones in the spring. Speaker 2 said she had scanned and posted the report online and pointed out three signature lines for "Jane" so the town can submit the document to the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP).
Speaker 1 moved to accept the inspection report and Speaker 3 seconded; the board voted in favor by voice vote. Speaker 2 said she would mark the signature locations and post the signed copy on the town website before forwarding it to MassDEP.
No financial appropriation was approved at the meeting for well replacement; Speaker 2 said the town will address monitoring-well remediation in the spring as needed.
