Public commenter urges Flagler School Board to allow longer time for group representatives

During public comment at the Nov. 18 Flagler County School Board meeting, Ron Long urged the board to revise policy 0169.1 to give a designated representative of a group five minutes to speak instead of the standard three. Long argued a single representative may have difficulty summarizing the viewpoints of multiple constituents under the current time limit and cited similar accommodations by other local governments.
"When a designated representative is speaking on behalf of a group, allow that speaker 5 minutes instead of the 3," Long said, asking the board to modify the policy to preserve meaningful access to public input.
Board members acknowledged the suggestion and discussed bringing the topic to a future workshop to examine criteria (group size, verification of representation, and safeguards against misuse). Superintendent Moore and staff agreed to place the proposal on a future agenda for more formal consideration.
