Flagler Schools names Sunshine State Scholars and highlights student opportunities

Flagler County School District highlighted student achievements and community programs at its Nov. 18 meeting, naming two local juniors as its Sunshine State Scholar entrants and describing upcoming opportunities.
The district presented Suki Liu, Flagler Palm Coast High School nominee, and Matanzas High School’s Ethan Tincher as the district’s Sunshine State Scholar and alternate. School leaders described Liu’s 4.0-weighted GPA, advanced coursework including University of Florida dual enrollment physics, and leadership roles in Mu Alpha Theta and competitive bridge. Matanzas’ nominee, Ethan Tincher, was recognized for a 4.0 GPA, participation in UF’s pre-med program and volunteer service at UF Flagler Hospital.
District staff said the statewide Sunshine State Scholars event is scheduled for March 2026 in Orlando, where students will meet postsecondary representatives and attend workshops on college and funding.
Madison Astell of the Flagler County Education Foundation also reported that last week’s college-and-career fair connected roughly 800 students with 27 colleges, 35 businesses and 17 government agencies. The foundation’s Josh Crews Gala and the opening of a scholarship application portal (deadline Jan. 17) were also shared with the board.
