The committee approved authorization for the water utility to spend up to budgeted amounts in 2026 for emergency repairs, staff reported.
Staff said three accounts are included: hydrant/lead/valve replacement and associated hardscape restoration; lateral repair; and mains/valve repair and additional hardscape restoration. Using 2025 as an example, staff said two major repairs (a tower and a county line) exceeded $100,000 each, which illustrates the unpredictability and potential magnitude of emergency work.
Committee members asked about notification and approval practices; staff said either the administrator or the director will notify the committee when an emergency expenditure occurs and that a follow-up report will be presented at the next committee meeting. The motion passed unanimously.
