Templeton committee withholds community-television requests until funding is clarified

At its Dec. 16 meeting the Town of Templeton Capital Improvements Committee voted unanimously to withhold recommendation of Templeton Community Television (TCTV) capital requests (line items 6–13) from the FY2027 tax-funded priority list. Committee members said the items depend on uncertain funding sources — including TCTV retained earnings, a possible municipal light-plant pilot, or state/local grants — and that the committee could not responsibly recommend them without written confirmation of funding.

Committee members noted past experience where retained-earnings projections were used and later required town support. As the chair stated while framing the motion, the committee will not recommend reliance on uncertified retained earnings or speculative earmarks. The committee directed staff to separate TCTV items in the report and to draft language for committee comments emphasizing the need for the select board and involved departments to solidify outside funding sources before the items are resubmitted for consideration.
