Stacy Peterson, the city’s chief financial officer, clarified how the levy revenue would be applied: "The levy goes directly into the ward fund, as a revenue," Peterson said, explaining the levy would reimburse the ward fund for the prior front-funded work.
Council members asked whether rejecting the levy would affect longer-term balances; the city attorney and Alderman Nunez said the decision pertains only to the upcoming year and that similar items can be considered in future budget cycles. Following discussion, the clerk called the roll and recorded a 12–0 vote in favor of rejecting the levy, adopting Alderman Nunez’s amendment.
The council’s action applies to the 2026 levy cycle specified in the ordinance text; staff indicated the question will recur in future years if additional levies are proposed.
