Summary
To secure Miami‑Dade County transportation funds and plan citywide traffic improvements, the commission approved hiring Alpar Solutions LLC for transit planning and Bowman Consulting for traffic engineering, with staff to pursue grant funding and a citywide study focusing on corridors including 109 and 112.
The City Commission voted Dec. 2 to authorize two consultant contracts aimed at improving transit planning and traffic engineering in Sweetwater. The mayor described the actions as necessary to comply with Miami‑Dade County Citizens' Independent Transportation Trust (CITT) requirements and to assemble professional packages for grant applications.
The commission authorized Alpar Solutions LLC to conduct transit planning studies that the county requires to access CITT funds, and separately authorized Bowman Consulting Group Ltd., Inc. to provide traffic engineering consulting for a citywide study that will concentrate on corridors with the most acute needs, including Southwest 109 and 112. Mayor Jose Pepe Diaz and staff said the consultants will help the city craft projects that can be funded by grants and county impact monies.
Commissioners approved both items unanimously. Staff will return with scopes, budgets and timelines as the consultant work is scoped and contracts are formalized.
