Geneva council declares emergency, authorizes design agreement for Depot Street storm sewer

At the Nov. 24 session, the City of Geneva council passed Resolution 3651, authorizing the city manager to enter into an agreement with Verandis to prepare construction drawings for a new storm sewer along Depot Street and the Mill Street parking lot. Council also declared the resolution an emergency and waived three readings by roll-call votes.
City Manager Bartlett explained that the stormwater project is estimated at about $228,800 in pre-construction numbers; county planning and development recommended $153,000 toward the project, leaving a city portion of roughly $75,200. Bartlett said the project ties to phase 2 of the Appalachian Community Grant program (ACGP) and that Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding would finance part of the work. He said the design authorization would allow the city to advance construction drawings and keep the grant timeline on track.
