Board awards $397,064 contract for Hayfield HVAC balancing after mold remediation; Arcadis closeout letter to be shared

The Fairfax County School Board on Dec. 4 approved awarding a contract for HVAC air and water balancing at Hayfield Secondary School to Annandale Balancing Company, Inc., in the amount of $397,064.31.
The contract was removed from the consent agenda and discussed following a recap of the summer’s mold remediation work. Superintendent Reed and facilities staff described an extensive remediation project that included air scrubbers, HVAC cleaning, coil replacements and removal of ceiling tiles; Arcadis performed third-party remediation work and provided sampling and testing.
Facilities leadership said the balancing contract will improve indoor air quality, extend the useful life of systems, and add monitoring (additional data loggers) to detect potential humidity issues earlier so similar problems can be prevented in future high-humidity seasons. Facilities staff committed to issuing the Arcadis closeout letter and related data to the Hayfield community.
Board members expressed appreciation for the thorough remediation and recommended system-monitoring expansion across vulnerable facilities. The clerk recorded the motion and the vote was unanimous among members present (with one member away from the table).
What’s next: The awarded vendor will perform the air and water balancing work; staff will continue system monitoring and share the Arcadis closeout findings with the Hayfield community.
