Multiple speakers praised Roper for years of service, citing his involvement with Open Doors, the youth commission, the planning commission and his leadership during construction and financing of a new North Davis Fire District facility. One councilmember recalled Roper stepping up to address recurring neighborhood property issues and described his approach as diving in and getting things done.
In his remarks, Roper reflected on his first night in the chamber and described the work he tried to do while in office. He thanked the police department, staff and former council members, and singled out council member Peterson and Mayor Shepherd for support. He also thanked his family and said the role strengthened his faith and relationships. "Serving on the Clearfield City Council has been one of the greatest honors of my life," he said, adding that he intends to remain active in the community.
The council announced a small reception for Roper next week and offered additional informal thanks during staff reports and holiday remarks.
