State House candidate urges Sheldon ISD to prepare students for Generation Park jobs

SHELDON, Texas — During the public-comment period, Danny Norris, a parent in the district and a candidate for state representative, congratulated CE King High School for receiving recognition at a national conference and urged the district to prepare local students for job opportunities associated with the Generation Park development.
Norris said he saw district administrators at a National Alliance of Black School Educators banquet and that he also learned his daughter’s team "made state," prompting him to rearrange holiday plans to attend events in Arlington. He identified himself as a former school board member and a candidate for state representative.
"We wanna make sure that those jobs are actually coming to the area... We wanna make sure that we have the resources ... to make sure that our kids ... are prepared for those jobs that are coming," Norris said, urging more local workforce development and partnership with the district so employers do not bring labor from other communities.
Norris also said he looks forward to working with the district at a larger level and thanked trustees for their service.
