Carpinteria Library reports rising visits and expanded bilingual programming

The Carpinteria Community Library presented its monthly report to the City Council on Dec. 8, highlighting partnerships, new bilingual programming and performance metrics for FY 2024–25.
Staff noted collaborative programs with Head Start and a Native American celebration, the launch of a bilingual story time (English and Spanish), and continued outreach through a newly produced downtown map and promotional effort. Library statistics validated by the California State Library included 2,410 total open hours, 4,432 registered library cardholders (a 20.8% increase), 71,280 in‑person visits (a 12.45% increase) and 62,181 print circulations (a 2.3% increase). Electronic-material circulation decreased relative to the previous year.
Library staff reported 49 applications for a part‑time library technician position and the first round of interviews underway, and said they will compare services with other Santa Barbara County library directors in an upcoming meeting.
Motion: Council moved to receive and file the library report and voted to do so.
