San Juan County commissioners approved several administrative and routine items, including ratification of revised ADA grievance procedures for county detention facilities, adoption of the 2026 county holiday schedule, and the consent agenda covering grant and budget adjustments.
Mister Sawyer explained that the county had historically used a single ADA coordinator for the county, but the existing grievance procedure was designed for general-public complaints and was not workable for detention facilities. Facilities implemented separate procedures with facility-level ADA coordinators to resolve inmate grievances informally and escalate to formal processes if necessary; staff asked the commission to ratify the procedures and the commission did so by voice vote.
Public relations manager Mister Neely presented the proposed 2026 legal holiday schedule (Resolution No. 25-26-35), noting that it follows Section 12-5-2 (MSA 1978, as amended) with specified exceptions (Good Friday observed 04/03/2026; Independence Day observed 07/03/2026; Indigenous Peoples Day observed 11/27/2026; Martin Luther King Jr. observed 12/24/2026). The schedule had been reviewed by department heads and the employee point-of-view committee; the commission adopted the resolution.
On the consent agenda, commissioners approved authorization for a DWI grant agreement amendment (26DG24 amendment 1), a resolution on disposition of surplus/obsolete county property (Resolution No. 25-26-38), and FY26 budget adjustments (Resolution No. 25-26-39).
These measures were approved by voice vote with no recorded opposition. Staff said no substantive changes to services were expected from the ratified procedures but that the facility coordinators would provide a faster, informal process for addressing inmate complaints before escalation.
