Students from 4 Corners present news crew work as principal highlights reading gains and attendance

Two student reporters from the district's 4 Corners news crew described how they produce a weekly in-school newscast that includes interviews, weather segments with a green-screen effect, and STEM-related projects. The students said they collect short class reports and broadcast them as part of a weekly program.
The 4 Corners principal outlined the building's instructional goals, saying the school expects students to be reading at grade level before leaving the building and will focus interventions for students at "some risk" of falling behind. "Our goal is that we want all of our students, before they leave our building, to be reading at grade level," the principal said during the presentation.
The principal cited several positive indicators: current student attendance of about 96%, a 66% reduction in the number of K–3 students requiring a reading plan compared with last year, and increases in district report-card measures (overall report card score up 2.6 points; achievement up 5 points). The principal also described a recent 40th anniversary celebration and staff work to align reading and writing instruction across grade levels.
Board members thanked the students and staff for the presentation and had no questions that changed the program direction. The board moved on to business items after the report and approved several routine agenda recommendations for final action at the regular meeting.
