City investigates why new bucket‑truck boom was not certified for use

A staff update noted that a truck recently purchased by the city has an uninspected boom on the aerial equipment, which prevented its use on a recent project. Staff said the truck chassis had passed inspection but the boom itself had not been certified for aerial work.
"If we're gonna be putting people up in it, it should be inspected," Speaker 3 said, and added staff will investigate whether the boom requires inspection only when used around three‑phase power (as with electric utilities) or if the city’s internal inspection can certify it for non‑three‑phase work. Staff said they will report back to council on whether the boom is inspectable and safe to use.
Committee members noted the purchase was recent and expressed concern that the asset could not yet be put into service.
