Prattville Historic Preservation Commission approves porch awning for Masonic Lodge

The petition, presented by Richard Ferguson on behalf of the Masonic lodge, included photos and elevation drawings of the proposed porch covering. Chair cited the petitioner’s prior scheduling for a September meeting that lacked a quorum and read the application into the record before opening discussion. The petitioner described the location and the design’s dimensions and context.
Commissioners voiced support for the design, with Commissioner Tamara Miller commenting, “It looks nice.” The chair asked about the masonic emblem’s construction and color; staff said the commission does not generally regulate emblem color. The chair disclosed that Mr. Ferguson would recuse himself because his father is a mason; he did not participate in consideration of the item.
The commission opened a public hearing; no members of the public spoke. The commission then voted to grant a certificate of appropriateness for the porch covering. The vote passed 5–0 with one recusal.
The approval allows the lodge to proceed with the porch covering as presented; the commission closed the item with no additional conditions noted on the record.
