Superior School District outlines repairs and safety lessons after middle-school entrance damage

A district staff member identified in the meeting as Matt described the role of the district’s camera system during the response. "It was utilized for 4 or 5 hours, and it gave us information, that that saved lives in my opinion," Matt said. He also explained that the school had a shatter-resistant film on some exterior windows that is not bullet resistant but helped maintain glass integrity during the incident.
Board members repeatedly thanked the Superior Police Department and several other responding agencies; the superintendent said five or six agencies were on-site during the response. The board emphasized support services for students and staff, including counseling and at-home learning plans while repairs continue.
Board members asked staff about damaged fixtures and equipment; administration said some windows and other items required repair and the district was working with buildings-and-grounds crews and contractors to determine next steps. One board member requested a more detailed damage-cost estimate to be shared at the next operations meeting.
The district also described broader safety investments, including cameras and the window film, and discussed expanding protective measures to other exterior windows. District leaders said they will share specific reopening and support details with staff and families in follow-up communications.
The meeting did not include a vote specifically tied to the incident response; repair contracting and potential bids will follow the district’s procurement rules and insurance processes.
