Planning Board suspends January rules to allow site plans; staff introduces new planning intern

At the close of its Dec. 10 meeting, the Birmingham City Planning Board approved a motion to suspend the rules of procedure for both January 2026 meetings so either session could consider site plans or study sessions. The motion was made and seconded and carried by voice vote.
Staff said this scheduling flexibility would allow the board and staff to act quickly if applications require timely review in the new year. City planning staff also introduced Lauren Milia, a planning intern and Wayne State University master's student who started with the department three to four weeks earlier and will assist staff on upcoming work.
The board approved the procedural change and adjourned its final meeting of 2025.
