The DeSoto Parish Police Jury reappointed Margaret Dickerson, Pam Rogers, Donna Cagle and John Russell to three‑year terms on the tourism commission and approved the 2026 tourism budget as presented. The motions were made, seconded and carried by the jury.
At a special meeting later in the record, jurors approved the amended 2026 operating and capital budget and adopted an amendment to add $20,000 to support the Soil & Water Conservation District. The amendment was proposed by Mr. Holmes and seconded; jurors clarified that the amendment adds $20,000 and that the amended proposed budget was approved with that addition.
During public comment, speakers including Charlotte Kinotek urged careful prioritization of taxpayer funds, arguing parish priorities should favor economic and infrastructural investments rather than grants to churches when a reported $2.4 million shortfall existed.
The tourism appointments, tourism budget and the budget amendment with the $20,000 allocation were all adopted during the meeting, and staff will incorporate the change into the parish’s 2026 operating and capital plan.
