Michigan City honors divers and first responders for rapid water rescue

Chief Taylor read an email from David Harshfield of Dark Side Rescue praising the professionalism of Michigan City dive-rescue personnel during an ejection accident on the race course. The recognition listed firefighters and police divers by name and credited coordinated actions — including an Eagle Rescue helicopter deploy and DNR secondary search — that resulted in recovery and transport of victims and rapid lifesaving care.
Chief Taylor and Chief Foraker both commended the rescuers, and the council joined in appreciation. The fire department said personnel involved will receive departmental recognition and a group photograph will be arranged.
