Council members used the acknowledgements portion of the agenda to highlight seasonal events and community engagement opportunities.
Speaker 3 said the city will honor WNBA star Natasha Mack on Dec. 22 at 7 p.m. with a free event that will include ticket giveaways and a chance to win an autograph basketball. The council invited the public to attend.
Speaker 10 (Olivia Wilson), a government instructor who frequently attends meetings, invited council members to take part in a community forum on Jan. 22 from 6–7:30 p.m. in the chamber. Wilson said the forum will explain how the city operates (ward organization, the council-manager form of government), help residents identify their ward and representative, and provide a short agenda with time for residents to speak informally with council members in the foyer.
Council members expressed support for the forum and for the holiday events. Staff also reported that sales tax receipts are up a little over 4% year-over-year and that budget and project status materials are in the packet for review.
