Lufkin honors two firefighters promoted after competitive exams

The Lufkin City Council on Monday recognized two promotions within the Lufkin Fire Department.
Chief Goody presented the honors and said the candidates “successfully complete the department's most demanding written examinations, covering more than 2,300 pages of material on fire service operations, leadership, policies, protocol, and procedures.” He identified Jordan Walker as promoted to driver/operator; Goody said Walker has served more than three years as a firefighter and paramedic and is assigned to Station 5 and participates in TIFMAS and EMTF deployments. Kevin Crawford was promoted to captain after 25 years with the department; Goody said Crawford has been a paramedic for 23 years, was promoted to lieutenant in 2012 and is now assigned to fire administration as the EMS coordinator.
Mayor and council members offered congratulations and noted the department’s role in community safety. No formal council action was required for the recognition.
The recognition was presented near the start of the meeting; the council then proceeded to its business agenda.
