Council approves $3.167M contract for pump-station improvements

The Auburn City Council on Dec. 2 authorized a $3,167,000 contract with Schmidt Environmental Construction Inc. to perform miscellaneous improvements at multiple sanitary sewer pump stations.
Staff said most of the city’s pump stations are more than 20 years old and require a range of upgrades — electrical panels, piping, lighting and fencing for security. The contract packages station-specific work into a single procurement to address the most pressing needs across the system. Engineering staff and the capital-improvement plan identify the project under sewer collection system work.
Council asked for clarity about whether the project figure was specifically called out in the capital-improvement plan. Staff confirmed the pump-station improvements are a called-out project in the CIP and that the contract will address the prioritized stations. Project managers said the contract will upgrade about seven of the city’s 18 pump stations; station-by-station scope will be detailed in the contract documents.
Council approved the contract by voice vote. Staff will return with project schedules and site-specific plans as the work advances.
