Council member Cummings said she selects 100 East Point city employees in a citywide drawing to receive Thanksgiving food gifts, including turkeys, sweet potatoes, collard greens and sweet potato pies. "I pull their name, and they're given they're gifted with turkeys, sweet potatoes, collard greens, and sweet potato pies," she said.
Cummings framed the program as a personal token of appreciation for employees who keep the city running. "They are our boots on the ground, our foot soldiers," she said, adding that without city staff "the city would not run." The remarks were delivered in a brief address to residents.
She said the distribution is run in partnership with "Miss Jameka" and a food-bank organization and that members of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity are helping with the effort. Cummings described the initiative as her "gift to the city employees," and said it is intended to recognize staff during the holiday season.
No formal council action, motions or vote were announced during the remarks. Cummings closed by wishing residents a happy Thanksgiving and safe holidays.
