The board discussed a proposed contract with Wiss and Associates to conduct a countywide salary survey. One commissioner questioned the value of the survey, noting recent pay decisions that included small percentage raises for many employees and a substantially larger raise for a single position earlier in the year.
"We gave a 2% raise to a large percentage of people, but yet at the same time, we gave a 28% raise to someone," one commissioner said, arguing that the county should hear from council representatives about how survey results would be used and how exceptions would be handled.
Commissioners agreed to request a county-council representative appear to explain the rationale and discrepancies the council is managing, then tabled the Wiss proposal for further discussion at a later meeting (the motion to table carried). No contract was approved at this meeting.
