Commission approves rezoning at 1416 East Vesta to two-family

The East Point Planning and Zoning Commission on Thursday approved a rezoning that will allow the property at 1416 East Vesta Avenue to change from R-1A (urban residential) to R-2 (two-family residential).
Owner Horace Walker told the commission the request was “for an administrative step for my mortgage company” and that the house is already used as a two-family dwelling. Director Smith said staff’s recommendation was approval, noting a nearby property had been rezoned to R-2 in 2013 and that the request fits the future land-use designation of a traditional neighborhood. “Our staff recommendation is approval,” Director Smith told commissioners.
No members of the public came forward to speak for or against the rezoning. Commissioners moved and seconded the staff recommendation, and the commission accepted it by voice vote.
The change will allow two-family residential use legally under the R-2 zoning classification; staff mapped the parcel and noted the change aligns with typical zoning in the area. The commission did not attach additional conditions to the approval. The decision is final for the commission’s level of review and, if required by city procedures, will be processed with the city clerk’s office.
