The Greenwood Board of Public Works and Safety approved multiple public-safety contracts Dec. 15 intended to maintain equipment warranties, expand training and improve fleet tracking.
Staff described an amended contract with Stryker to replace medical monitors across frontline apparatus and extend warranty coverage through 2031, noting monitors can cost about $65,000 each and that an updated contract offered a five-year warranty for the new units. The board approved the monitor replacement and warranty arrangement.
The board also approved a training partnership with Franciscan Health (Indianapolis and Morrisville) to provide ride-along precepting and mentorship for paramedic students; staff said paramedic certification typically takes about 18 months and may cost approximately $14,000 per student. “Essentially what they would be doing is letting us ride in our ambulances, to educate and further educate our paramedics,” staff said.
Separately, the board approved a three-year addendum to its Samsara GPS contract to add 65 units at $199.68 per unit per year, increasing the tracked fleet from 205 to 270 units and adding about $12,979.20 annually to the contract. Staff said the additional units will be installed on heavy trucks and equipment to provide location and lifetime usage data.
All three measures were moved and approved during the meeting. Board members noted the long-term warranty and training partnership will help control repair costs and support local EMS certification capacity.
