The Ione City Council directed staff to begin a formal update of the municipal building-fee schedule and to issue an RFP for a fee study at its Dec. 16 meeting.

A councilmember said the last comprehensive fee review occurred in 2016 and that many fee categories now appear inconsistent (for example, that adding a deck and installing a hot-water heater were charged similarly). The council discussed updating the schedule to reflect current costs and agreed the review should be repeated every five years; the motion to issue an RFP passed on a voice vote.

Council did not specify the consultant selection criteria in the meeting; staff was directed to begin the RFP process and return to council with proposals and a recommended timeline.
