The Medina County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday adopted Resolution No. 25 0 9 7 8 commending Mayor Dennis Hanwell for 42 years of public service, including 16 years as mayor and 26 years with the Medina Police Department.
The resolution, read by the board chair, credited Hanwell with advancing public safety, community development and cooperative projects across the county, citing the Miracle League Field, renovation work at Medina High School and the Community Recreation Center, and partnerships such as the Medina 911 Memorial and outreach following Hurricane Helene.
Judge Bill Hudson, who said “I have known Dennis … since he was the chief of police,” praised Hanwell’s leadership and recalled working with him to coordinate city–county projects, including courthouse improvements. Hudson called the mayor “the epitome of a good leader” and thanked him for his support of regional collaboration.
Commissioners also spoke in tribute, describing Hanwell as accessible, collaborative and focused on outcomes that benefit the wider community. The board approved the resolution by roll call vote.
In brief remarks after the vote, the honoree thanked the commissioners and described several local projects and collaborations that shaped his tenure. The board recessed its public session after concluding the commendation and other agenda business.
