Local nonprofit The Teacher's Closet seeks city help to expand services for East Point educators

"Our mission is simple but deeply meaningful, to uplift, support, and empower educators," Levinson said, describing the group—s work providing new and gently used professional clothing free to teachers. The organization, established in 2023, moved into East Point this year and reported serving thousands across Atlanta and East Point.
Levinson described operations (location: 1526 East Forest Avenue; hours during school year Fridays and Saturdays 10 a.m.-2 p.m.; during summer open three days a week) and said teachers may receive three complete outfits once a month. She said the group hopes to add a teachers-wellness and resource space and asked that the city consider financial assistance, space, or other support to help cover overhead such as rent and utilities.
Council members thanked the presenter and suggested ways to help publicize the nonprofit and provide practical support such as including notice on utility bills or placing informational flyers at senior centers and customer-service counters. The founder promoted a College Park fundraiser and provided a website for ticket purchases.
