Manager reports staffing promotions, new hires and upcoming pedestrian crossing bids

Town Manager Adam Mitchell reported multiple personnel and program updates during the Dec. 1 meeting. He said two police officers advanced to corporal status, two new officers joined the force (one sworn Nov. 24; another started Dec. 1 with prior law-enforcement experience), and two firefighters completed career-ladder requirements and were promoted.
Mitchell also announced a planning staff member achieved Certified Zoning Official status through the UNC School of Government and noted public-utilities reminders about winterizing outdoor plumbing as temperatures drop.
On capital projects, he said engineering will open bids Dec. 4 for pedestrian crossing enhancements (rectangular rapid-flashing beacons) at five locations between Downtown Fuquay and Downtown Verina; construction is anticipated to begin in early 2026. Mitchell encouraged commissioners to submit topics for the town board retreat scheduled in February.
He also listed several community events — a tree lighting on Dec. 4 at 6 p.m. and the Fuquay Varina Christmas parade on Dec. 7 at 4 p.m. — and thanked staff for community outreach work such as a recycling education event at the library.
